“I walk with Death in final exhalation,

And come apart with violent separation.

A thousand floors, ascend into the Ether…

A lunatic, enchanted by the Reaper.

And down below I leave a stranger lying lifeless

As the light begins to shatter the skies…

And I ascend and leave behind the “used to be”,

And tear the fabric worn to cover my eyes…

And see…

I see…

I see…

Nobody”

For the historically inclined, this is the best write up of the Galileo incident I've found. It's several posts long, but well worth it, as his sense of humor is featured alongside his knowledge.

Nice! Thanks for sharing that.

This is the letter I allude to: https://web.stanford.edu/~jsabol/certainty/readings/Galileo-LetterDuchessChristina.pdf

So based.

I'm halfway through the letter, and it's awesome. It's what I've been telling some of the radical Catholics for years - because (sadly) much of the radical Catholics have been colonized by fundamental protestants within the realms of science. But Galileo is spot on in this so far in the letter, with regards to Scripture speaking only in the sense of the Theological, and that we need to interpret it that way, and have careful exposition with regards to things like times when the Sun is said to stand still.

It's not that those things did not happen, it's simply that we take it on Faith that the miracle occurred, and do not know how God did it. The same is true for things like the more recent miracle at Fatima, where the Sun danced in the sky and changed colors. The science behind that doesn't matter, because it IS a miracle. That's the definition of miracle - it never made sense to me to try and explain the physics behind those things.

If they obeyed the laws of physics, they wouldn't be miraculous now, would they?

Ooooooo, source material! Nice!

The write up will explain some of the political politics, theology, and science behind each of the theories in Galileo's time. So it's a nice read because it encompasses all of society's influences behind the decisions made, and the individuals at the time.

Thank you for this! Short and sweet and sincere? I think so. I was interested because the title didn’t seem like what I normally think of you as writing…… but I appreciate your honesty and understand how you feel “ the bastardization…” it seems like everything good and right has been bastardized nowadays but maybe that is because I am old I try not to be cynical I think that we were created in the image and likeness of God and “ it was good” whatever corruption has transpired can not erase the good. That is my story and I’m sticking to it. I left the coffee house rock band churches tho and checked into Eastern Orthodoxy.

Begin again with aetheistic negation and then experence whatever comes next pragmatically. Quite a journey. Grounded in family community and culture. Still on this small (moving) blue dot. I love reflecting on your posts. Thanks.

I really enjoyed this what I consider to be a treatise on self-determination. As a confirmed anarch as far as I can tell there appears to be a concerted effort underway, proctored by the self-proclaimed elitists, to reestablish a Monarchy; this time as a single all encompassing global control structure...aka NWO. It also appears to me that the apparent surge in atheism (both spiritual as well as societal) may in fact be a contributing factor to the rise in what I like to refer to as the tyrannical "idocracy" that we are currently witnessing western society being transformed into. So much to say... but allow me at least to warn about throwing the baby out with the bathwater... In point of fact, I don't personally agree with the idea that it's necessary to subscribe to a particular man-made "religious" or "social" doctrine as a prerequisite to a general faith structure in either categorical realm.

I tried to wrap my head around the idea of God for the first bit of my life. Synagogue. I’ve been baptized. Conversations with God was the closest I ever got. The concepts of a God just don’t jive with my wiring. I’m ok with that.

My awe is my faith. My fear of the unknown is my faith. My learning new concepts is my faith.

Atheism has cause some of the worst systems of economy, rule and law. Theology has done the same.

I feel as though there’s a stigma on atheist/agnostic whatever, that they’re just religious people waiting to be converted. I did jive with Buddhism. It’s anarchistic by the definition of “ruling the self”. It’s an incredibly self-centered religion. I’m ok with that. Eightfold path just makes sense. If shit ain’t right, it’s easy to see “Oh shit, it’s cause I’m not practicing right ____”

I can guarantee I missed the deeper meaning of what this said, but I’m glad to be in your orbit.
