..the darkness being His secret resting place..

So that even when we stray, or are led astray, when we think all hope is lost, that our transgressions are unforgivable, he is there to comfort and guide us..as a loving parent forgives and cares for an infant..welcomed back into the fold, and given no task that is beyond us..

Which means that those you address, and all those that enable those that damage our children , are, in a word, fucked.

And that’s BEFORE they cross swords with brother Phisto here!

The lines are being drawn. I’m glad I’m on your side, Phisto. The prize could not be of more value. Nor the work more vital. I shall light a candle for you when I attend mass tomorrow morning. Accompanied by little ones that have expressed an interest in attending.

Thanks for this post. Inspired writing, my friend.

Thanks, Kevin. Light all the candles you can. I need the fires.

Oh, knowing these kids as I do, the candle lighting might.. no, will,.. last longer than the sermon. ;-)

Great stack man.

We sparked up about a dozen before I ran out of coins. I will have to break a twenty before going back next week.

Loved this. I think we are in similar positions. Previously apathetic or even outright hostile students, who are still apathetic or hostile to other adults in the building and in other classes, come to my class and really engage with history, and all admin wants to talk about when “observing” is whether or not they come to and leave my classroom silently and obediently… Sometimes I am consumed in anger regarding the inanity of the school system and its hall monitors, but like you I am increasingly finding comfort in the fact that I am winning.

I like the details of your idea of decimation. (Your reply to my comment on Notes a couple days ago.) Great piece.

One of my regrets was not realizing the practicability of home schooling earlier. My experience as an instructor should have better guided me.

The utter idiocy of a number of my kids teachers, who could not even to begin to describe the first principles or foundational assumptions of their worldviews. The ones who couldn’t grok why kids who could - when we still taught shop - be taught to operate complex mechanical equipment, but they with college degrees were too stupid to morally or effectively do so in protesting the very idea of , forex, teachers carrying guns. Had a band teacher tell me outright he didn’t trust the temper, moral judgement, or competence of his teachers to handle a simple device safely, yet thought he was a smarter than me or his kids. Or the fresh graduates heading to boot camp.

Even sadder, this was done unprompted in a public fora - a message to the parents of his students - where he decided to bring the topic up unprompted due to discussions elsewhere of recent shootings and how to respond. He just felt the need to moralize.

What a brilliant assignment!

I was watching a documentary on the Arthurian legends yesterday, & was struck by the fact that in the UK, you can take a short drive and go exploring the ruins of a castle or an abbey constructed centuries ago. I kept gazing at the stonework in the background and imagining the people who laid the block, the families they returned home to at the end of every work day, what their hopes and dreams were. . .

I do the same when viewing pictures or videos of drawings on cave walls.

We really are all connected, and we need to be mindful of that.
