Of Mice and Men was such a good book! Classic Steinbeck novel. Did you see the movie? (Lennie's death is done way too fast!).

I would also recommend reading Justin Trudeau's Ceauşescu Moment by Matt Taibbi

From another thread:

One of the biggest problems neoliberal governments have is much of their power comes from the willingness of their citizens to obey them. When people say "no" it all falls apart. It turns out that you cannot force truckers to carry goods, people to watch cable news pundits, or vote the way you want them to. Then we get to the fact that in America, most of the police and military care more about their homes than Washington DC, we tend to have an anti authority streak, have over 400 million guns with ammo and manufacturing equipment (only an estimated 150 million in the world's militaries), vast geographic swaths of the country do not care what the elites think, a long history of defiance and protesting, and the fact our very country was based on resisting overbearing authority, the establishment might have a bit of a problem. Now the Neoliberal Establishment could make some of this go away by reforming a bit and stopping some of their bad behaviors, but because of who they are this is not going to happen.

Remember these people retain their power through people believing they have more power than they do. Look at Justin Trudeau's stammering and threats. Is that the sign of someone in control? No, it is the look of someone desperate and panicking. What you mean big trucks are hard to move and the tow truck companies will not help out because they have a good relation with the truckers? Who saw that coming? They blocked all of the shipping routes, even the lesser known ones? How did they even know about those? They are only truckers! The Biden Administration is starting to panic too. It looks like the protests are going to spread here and Americans have far less respect for overbearing authority than Canadians. Multiple Canadian states have already backed down on their Covid-19 restrictions. Here in the United States, the Democrats are already running away from masks and lockdowns while saying the "science has changed". (hint, it has not) At this point, most of America hates our ruling class.

lol with joy! (Almost spewing that coffee of which you so magnanimously reminded...)

Well, we deserve to be woken up, too, from time to time, and asked to explain our selfish selves, and also asked if we have sufficient hatred of the State to actually put the bong down and help cut it down to proper Capitalist size.

I never mind being pushed by my blood-bros. We know how to live. Maybe the control-freaks are just jealous!

I don't know how much long haul trucks cost, but it's alot. Every one of those rigs is probs worth a million or more, so there was a lot of money (= power) there in Ottawa, honking. Not to mention the money they lost. And to have 2 funding campaigns be stolen, when they are the only army that showed up for us. They effing showed up, and seems like they will keep showing up. The new US army, the truckers. (Our servicemen and women are being damaged by the jabs..) Wanna give back something to the truckers, this is a huge risk for them all. Some will be taken out by the financial loss, I know. Donation advice today?

I for one support the truckers. The authoritarian actions governments around the world are taking under the guise of trying to keep people safe is destroying most peoples livelihood. I am not an expert on pandemics but the longer we go into this Covid mess the more it’s becoming clear we are going to have to learn to live with it and proceed with life as normal. I drive a truck 10 hours a day 60 hours a week. How the hell am I a Covid risk to anyone I spend 99% of that time alone in a cab. The only thing these draconian mandates are doing is taking away our ability live. These are not violent protesters they’re not burning down cities or neighborhoods. They are simply standing up for what they believe is right and fair. The freedom to live as one chooses. Sure every crowd has a few assholes and the dude flying the Nazi flag or the confederate flag should be slapped upside the head and told to go home. I hope this protest inspires others to show the world it’s not authoritarian politicians on Capitol Hill that run these countries but the working class. Just one assholes thoughts on the subject.

Love your always erudite writing. On the above topic, may I suggest Matt Taibbi's "Justin Trudeau's Ceauşescu Moment" on Substack.

"Learn" corrected to "learned". Gotta love the typo you find after you publish. Keeps you humble.
