The universe.
Everything that is. Everything that can be. The whole of the cosmos, everything, contained within a single word.
One line of poetry, should I dare be literal for my own ends.
“Where am I?” is a fundamentally useless question. You are somewhere on Earth. Earth is orbiting Sol. Thanks to Luna, Earth orbits in a wiggle. Sol orbits around the Milky Way. It wiggles too, thanks to our planet’s companions in the system. Sol dips and dives as it goes round the galactic plane, tilted relative to the galactic core.
It takes millions of years to make a single orbit around the Way.
The Way is moving as well, tearing through space at speed along with its galactic cluster brethren. Billions of years from now, the Andromeda galaxy will merge with the Milky Way. Billions of stars over billions of years in a dance you can merely scratch at imagining.
None of it will collide. Space is that big. And bigger.
Beyond that, the playing field on which this all sits - space-time - may or may not be getting larger, smaller, wider, thinner. We just don’t really know for sure.
We have theories. We have boxes. We have words to try and understand. To try and share with each other, if only that we might be less lonely.
Our words, like ourselves, are small. But we are not nothing and that makes all the difference.
Where am I? Where are you?
Inside our souls is probably the safest, most honest answer.
Until disaster, nothing changes.
Participation in politics is the “Where am I?” of the human experience. A particularly useless question in our radioactive technological age.
Ukraine. Gaza. Israel. Europe. Africa. China. Name whatever you want.
For Americans, both North and South, these things might as well be Andromeda. Our relation to them like the pull of our gravity on the galaxies.
Vote for Trump. Vote for Biden. Vote for Harris. Vote for Putin. Vote for LaPen. Vote for Democracy. Vote to Save Democracy. Our Democracy.
The Milky Way and Andromeda will join. Nothing will stop it.
We are small, but we are not nothing, so why work on nothing?
There are souls in front of you right now that need you. Your family, your community, your culture. There are minds desperate for help, help wasted on homage to false gods.
Ukraine. Gaza. Israel. Europe. Africa. China.
Your children starve beyond the merely physical. Your wife cries in ways you can’t hear. Neighbors? What are they?
Stop pouring your time into false idols. False gods. False truths.
You are small, but you are not nothing, and what you have is made precious by its scarcity.
Stop wasting.
Make your contribution to the Prime that radiates forever.
It is patient, but it won’t wait forever.
I feel like you should have quoted Carl Sagan lol.
This was very poetic. I will look past the space stuff, lol, and clap under the dome!
